Why I Fundraise

Darren running along the waterfront

Darren Kerr
Lives with CF | Organizer of 65 KM for Cystic Fibrosis

I was diagnosed when I was 3 months old. I have had the mindset of staying positive and happy. There is no point of being constantly down about the circumstances because that makes it worse and does no good.

I have been on Trikafta since 2017 and I have seen improvements, but is it a miracle drug? No. It is not a cure. I still have lung issues, and I have still been admitted to hospital even while on Trikafta. I think a miracle drug would be a cure. This is for sure a step in the right direction.

Before being a runner, I used to do an event called Darren’s Fabulous Fundraiser where it would be a large party with DJ’s, Go Go Dancers, Irish Dancers, Break Dancers, tons of prizes and it would be this big extraordinary event. Now that I am living life in a healthier way and love running, I wanted to still raise funds but in a way that reflects on the life I am living. The fundraiser is simple. I run 65 Kilometres (I started from the Aldergrove Boarder Crossing, and ran to English Bay in downtown Vancouver). People supported by donating to my online platform. I had one of my friends Kyle, who was my support person, driving along the way doing check-ins with me every 10KM’s roughly providing me with food and water. At the finish line I had my family and friends.
